What is mammography?

A mammography is a screening tool for breast cancer. It’s a special X-ray that helps identify abnormalities in breast tissue in women who have no other symptoms. 

It’s also used to provide more information for women who come to the office with concerns about breast lumps or other signs of breast cancer.

When should I get a mammography?

Dr. Miller-Thrasher is an experienced gynecologist and determines when you would benefit from a mammography based on your personal and family history. 

In general, most women start their annual screening mammograms at age 40. Women 55 and older should undergo a mammography to screen for breast cancer every two years.
